The history of this golf club is rich in vision, hard-work, perseverance, dedication, and character. This is derived and contributed by many men and women who have given freely of their time and energy for the benefit of all members.
Miramar Golf Club has been located on the Miramar Peninsula since August 1908. Our closest neighbours, Wellington International Airport (WIAL) have over the last century acquired more and more of the links land for their operations.
In 2019, WIAL were once again looking to purchase land from the links to support their 2040 expansion plans. The land they wanted was 12.9 hectares at the southern end of the links covering the back nine holes. With much debate and heart ache, the membership voted for the sale and acquisition of this parcel of land for a sizable sum of money. This land will be taken over in its entirety on 1st January 2025 leaving the club with 11 playing holes. Which was the same number of holes the Golf Club started with in 1908.
Whilst this could be seen as a tragedy for golf in the Eastern Suburbs, we see this change presents a positive opportunity for growing the game of golf in less traditional formats. The Club are working on defining the future of the club and investigating ways to ensure golf not just survives but thrives in the Eastern Suburbs community for years to come.
